IMER BERGEN 15 YEARS ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE AND PHD COURSE

“Migration, Globalization and New Social Formations”.

Topics include media discourses after 22\7, right wing populism in Scandinavia, secularism and religion in Europe, multiculturalism and ideologies of integration, diversity and European publics, and migration, transnationalism and neoliberal globalization.

PERFORMANCE: MISPLACED WOMEN? MARKING THE CITY AND CROSSING BORDERS

Starting on November 2 nd, Serbian performance artist Tanja Ostojic’s street performance Misplaced Women? continues themes of migration, desired mobility, and relations of power and vulnerability in regards to the mobile female body.
On November 10 th she will give the performance lecture Crossing Borders.
Date : Thursday 10 November, 19:00.
Venue : Stiftelsen 3,14, Vågsallmenningen 12, Bergen.
Free entrance.

HVA ER NORSKHET?

Sosiologi i dag 3/4 2011.
Hva er norskhet? Et nytt nummer av Sosiologi i dag presenterer forskning som undersøker norskhetens mange betydninger. Artiklene i dette nummeret viser hvordan etnisitet, kjønn og klasse har betydning for hvem og hva som representerer og forbindes med det «norske». Gjennom ulike empiriske nedslagsfelt viser flere av artikkelbidragene hvordan grensene som blir etablert mellom Norges innbyggere ikke er tilfeldige, men utgjør noen bestemte mønstre for inklusjon og eksklusjon. Spørsmålet som undersøkes i dette temanummeret er derfor ikke bare hvilke ulike aspekter norskhet kan romme, men også hva som faller utenfor norskhetens grenser.

 

GLOCALISING CARE IN NORDIC COUNTRIES

Call for abstracts Special Issue to be proposed for the Nordic Journal of Migration Research.
We invite abstracts of research papers, which examine the glocalising care in Nordic countries. We are particularly interested in papers that link previously separate research literatures or reframe traditional concepts in order to study complex processes of glocalisation in imaginative ways.
If you would like to contribute to this Special Issue, please send your abstract both to Lena Näre and Sirpa Wrede by 30 November 2011.

The Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) seeks to hire one fulltime senior researcher for the research unit “Migration, Integration, Transnationalization” (directed by Prof. Dr. Ruud Koopmans), preferably beginning on 1 January 2012.

PROVIR MASTER SCHOLARSHIPS
The research project “Provision of Welfare to Irregular Migrants” (IMER Bergen/Uni Rokkan Centre) invites master students from the University of Bergen and Bergen University College to apply for scholarships. The scholarships are of Nok 20 000 per project and is given to maximum 3 students. We especially invite applicants whose projects focus on children (in families or unaccompanied minors) and school and/or health.
