NORFACE COMPACT SERIES – MIGRATION: MOVING INTO VIEW

NORFACE Compact Series has published its first edition: “Migration: Moving into View”. The Spring 2012 edition reviews a selection of exciting research taking place within the NORFACE Migration research programme.

DIRECTOR, MALMö INSTITUTE FOR STUDIES OF MIGRATION, WELFARE AND DIVERSITY (MIM)

Malmö University seeks to recruit a new Director to the Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Welfare and Diversity (MIM). This is a full-time, permanent post on a 4-year appointment as Director of MIM. Application deadline: 31 May 2012.

DEBATE: HOW DOES INTERCULTURALISM CONTRAST WITH MULTICULTURALISM?

Nasar Meer and Tariq Modood ask: what is distinct about interculturalism as a political idea? What about the suggestion that it is distinct from and a suitable successor to multiculturalism? This topic is debated in a newly published volume of the Journal of Intercultural Studies which comprises an original article by Naser Meer and Tariq Modood, four responses (by Pnina Werbner, Will Kymlicka, Geoff Levey and Michel Wieviorka) and then a rejoinder.

 

NORTHUMBRIA ANNIVERSARY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

GENDER AND MOBILITIES: CURRENT EMPIRICAL, THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES AND CHALLENGES

The PhD course aims to reveal the knowledge status of research on gender and mobility through a critical lens in order to clarify and illuminate some of the different perspectives used in various disciplines such as sociology, geography, anthropology, gender studies etc.

MELLON POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN WORLD CHRISTIANITIES AND THEIR DIASPORA IN A EUROPEAN CONTEXT
Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge.
The proposed focus of research should address pressing matters of social integration, citizenship, post-colonialism and the changing nature of World Christianities. It will identify how religion helps migrants establish new lives in Europe and how religious and other institutions are changed through their encounter with migrant communities.
Two years from 1 October 2012.

PHD POSITION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LUCERNE
The Department for the Study of Religions at the University of Lucerne/Switzerland invites applications for a PhD position for its new research project on “Civic engagement of religious associations of immigrants: Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist associations in Switzerland and Austria“. The project will start in July 2012.
