LIFESTYLE MIGRATION IN RURAL AREAS

Call for papers to special issue of an international peer-reviewed journal. Deadline: 20 October 2012.
For more information and submission of abstracts, contact the editors:
Sofia Gaspar and Joana Azevedo .

In recent years, lifestyle migration – or residential tourism – has emerged as an increasingly popular form of mobility, usually in relation to affluent citizens who have decided to move within or outside their country of origin in search of better quality of life. This special issue thus envisages exploring themes related to this social phenomenon, particularly in rural landscapes. While lifestyle migration has usually been studied in terms of retirement migration, particularly migration flows from Northern European citizens towards coastal resorts in Southern Europe, in this volume we want look to mobile citizens from other stages of the life course, such as young or middle-age migrants who have chosen to start a new life in the countryside.
